Dungeons and Dragons Group Therapy
You may have noticed the new popularity of Dungeons and Dragons as a form of group therapy. This has been growing in popularity over the years yet not many people know of the benefits. By engaging in role playing games with others we are allowing ourselves to express and experience emotions that we may find challenging otherwise. Research has shown that engaging in role playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons has helped adolescents to build social skills and deeper insight into their motivations. Dungeons and Dragons allows participants to remove themselves from the spotlight and experience challenges and emotions through another form. By doing this we are able to build our tolerance to various emotions and experiences. In addition to the benefits for emotional insight and tolerance participants are able to practice communication skills and relationship building.
All of the skills participants are highly valuable especially for teenagers and young adults as they continue to build their confidence in themselves and their abilities.
