ADHD Evaluation

There are many reasons why parents and caregivers seek out ADHD evaluations for their children. Some are looking to understand their child’s behaviors or to better understand their child’s learning patterns. No matter the motivation for seeking evaluation understanding your child’s strengths and challenges is a great way to ensure they are getting the support they need. Regardless of the families goals, we aim to provide an affirming and comprehensive assessment to our children and families so they feel prepared for what is ahead.

There are many reasons that an ADHD evaluation might be important to you or your child:

  • Receiving a diagnosis can help your child to understand themselves better. Often times, children with undiagnosed ADHD unconsciously create beliefs about who they are and what they are capable of based on the challenges they face as result of ADHD. These experiences can influence other mental health issues including anxiety and depression which are often co-occurring. Having a label for what is going on allows your child to depersonalize the situation and begin to find solutions.

  • As parents, caregivers, and family members we are willing to make accommodations in our lives to adjust to the child’s needs. However, schools and other people might be hesitant to offer such accommodations without a formal diagnosis. Often, once there is a formal diagnosis schools will change offer alternative teaching styles, adaptations, or additional supports.

  • Some people choose to take medication to assist in managing symptoms of ADHD. Without a formal diagnosis of ADHD you are not able to receive medication. Medication can help children to control impulses, follow through with tasks, and so much more. While this route isn’t for every person a comprehensive assessment to confirm the diagnosis ensures that you are going down the right path.
